The port city of Chittagong and different parts of the district experienced a moderate to heavy rainfall in past 24 hours disrupting city life as well as business activities.
The rain continued intermittently since Friday night causing inconvenience to
city dwellers and hampering business activities.Officials of the Chittagong Port Authority said overall operational activities of the country’s prime seaport remained uninterrupted but unloading of bulk cargoes from vessels was disrupted partially during heavy shower.
They said work of unloading the open cargoes was stopped during strong rain time only in a bid to save imported consignments from any damage.
Officials of Chittagong International Airport said rain did not hamper the scheduled flight operation at the airport but delayed a few flights.
Fire Service, Chittagong Metropolitan and district police control room sources said they had not received any information of rain- related accidents including hill or mud collapse that often caused human casualty and injury in the port city and its outskirts in rainy season each year.
Local Met Office sources said they recorded highest 168.8 millimeters rainfall in last 24 hours beginning at 6:00pm Friday.
The Met Office predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in next 24 hours in the different parts of the country.
The heavy shower created serious water logging submerging some residences and business establishments in low-laying areas including Bakalia, East Chaktai, Asdaganj, Bakalia, Muradpur, Bahadderhat, Panchlaish, Pathantuli and
Halishahar areas in the city.
Water-logging also led to serious traffic congestion in many parts of the city.
