The Dhaka Premier League for the next season will begin on October 10 as the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday announced the domestic calendar for 2014–15.
The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis sat with standing committees at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium before making the official announcement at a press conference.
‘We talked about organising the Dhaka Premier League, the First Division, the Second Division and the Third Division League,’ AZM Nasir, chairman of the cricket committee, told reporters at the press conference.
‘Player transfer for the Dhaka Premier League will be held in August 4–5 while the league will be held in October 10–November 25,’ Nasir, the Chittagong-based chairman of the cricket committee, said.
They further decided that there would be no Dhaka Premier League for the current 2013–14 season.
‘There is no word called season. We completed the league in September and we will do it in the same manner this year,’ Nasir said. ‘I do not know whether that was of a 2012–13 season. We completed the league in the past year and hope to do it this year too,’ he said.
The BCB’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that the player’s transfer would be held in keeping with what is in practice. He ruled out the chance of retaining controversial players by way of the system introduced in the past year.
‘Players by choice transfer will not be there as we have decided to get back to the old format,’ Nizamuddin said.
The player’s transfer of the First Division will be held in September 1–2 and the league will begin on October 12.
The third edition of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament will be held in December 1–January 5, according to the new calendar.
The cricket board decided to launch a Twenty20 tournament for First Division cricketers to increase their skills in this format.
The Second and the Third Division will begin simultaneously on December 17 and the player’s transfer will be held in November 17–18.
