The Dhaka Premier League was deferred for the fifth time and now will begin on November 11 instead of November 5 as the Bangladesh Krira Shikha Protishtan refused to provide grounds for the matches next week, said the officials. The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis said it had requested the BSKP to allocate ground 1 and 2 for the matches on Friday and Saturday, but the sports academy authority turned down the request.
‘We were told that the grounds were allotted for a corporate tournament,’ CCDM secretary Rakib Haider told New Age on Sunday.
The CCDM has already deferred the league on three occasions and was looking to start it on November 5.
BKSP’s refusal was followed by the ongoing political instability that left the CCDM officials handicapped.
‘We are not really sure when we can start the league,’ said Rakib. ‘Even if we start the league on November 5 we have to postpone it the next day because of strike.’
Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board postponed the league until November 2 in order to accommodate BCB XI’s Acharya Memorial Trophy in Kolkata.
The league was initially scheduled to start on October 10.
Officials said that now the league will start from November 11.
On the opening day, champions Gazi Tank cricketers will take on newcomer Old DOHS at the Sher-e-Bangla National stadium.
While, runners-up Sheik Jamal will take on newly promoted Partex Sporting Club. In the other match of the day Prime Doleshwar SC will lock horns on with Kalabagan Krira Chakra.
