The two-day drama festival that began on Friday at Jahangirnagar University concluded on Saturday with the staging of Fire Dekha, a comedy. The festival which was organised by Jahangirnagar Theatre as a gesture of extending a warm welcome to the freshly enrolled students of the 43rd batch attracted a large number of audiences on both days.
On the last day, Dhaka-based troupe Batikrom Theatre staged Fire Dekha at the Selim Al Din Mukto Moncho of the university. The play was directed by Mohidul Islam and written by Chandan Shan.
The comedy revolves around Haru, the comical central character who is a servant at the residence of Bimolas Babu. Throughout the length of the play, Haru intimidates his master and his family members by claiming that he knows all their secrets and will reveal every dark deed of everyone on the first day of next month. Bimolas Babu gets paranoid with these threats as he had previously killed his first wife by pushing her off the roof. The comedy of the play heightens because of the fact that Haru does not actually know anything about anyone; even though he comes to know the dark secrets by eavesdropping on all the family members anyways.
Despite being repeatedly asked about what Haru knows, he declares to keep his silence till the end of the month. Perplexingly, when the first day of the month finally arrives at the end of the play, everyone finds out that Haru has simply disappeared.
