Stalemates became the norm in the Bangladesh Premier League as both of its matches on Tuesday ended in 1-1 draw at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
In the first match of the day, Brothers Union came from behind to draw with Feni Soccer Club while the match between Muktijoddha Sangshad Krira Chakra and Team BJMC ended with the same result.
This was the fifth draw in six matches of the league with big names such as Sheikh Jamal DC, Mohammedan SC, Abahani Limited and Chittagong Abahani all dropped points in their opening matches.
Meanwhile, title contenders Sheikh Russell KC lost to Uttar Baridhara in the opening match of the league.
Haitian forward Augustine Walson struck the equaliser in the 27th minute for Brothers with placing shot after Sushanta Tripura put Feni Soccer ahead in the fourth minute with a dinking shot just outside from the penalty area.
It was not a surprising result for Feni, as they had earlier shown their potential in the season’s curtain-raiser Independence Cup, where they drew with giants like Abahani and Sheikh Russell.
They also could have secured all three points if Nigerian Twum Frank and Akbar Hossain Ridon didn’t waste few sitters.
Feni went ahead in the fourth minute when Sushanta ran down from the left-flank to chip the ball from just outside the box.
Walson levelled the margin 10 minutes later after receiving a long-ball from Ebayed Hossain Komol.
Walson dribbled past goalkeeper Sujan Chowdhury and a defender inside the box to coolly place the ball into the near post.
Afterwards, it was almost a one-way traffic as Feni Soccer at least created four scoring chances to restore the lead but Frank, Uche Feli and Ridon squandered all of them.
In the day’s second match, Nigerian midfielder Samson Iliasu gave Team BJMC the breakthrough in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot.
Ahmed Kolo Musa restored the parity for Muktijoddha within two minutes by nutmegging goalkeeper Arifuzzaman Himel.
Muktijoddha could have secured all three points had Kolo Musa not squandered a spot kick in the 53rd minute. The All Reds also failed to capitalise their one man advantage after Bayebeck of BJMC was given the marching order in the 65th minute.
