Mothers of journalist couple Sagar-Runi on Monday expressed their dissatisfaction over the probe in the couple-murder and blamed the government ‘negligence’ in this regard.
The journalist leaders threatened to launch a tougher movement if the killers of journalist couple were not arrested by a week. They were addressing the inauguration programme of Sagar-Runi Auditorium at Dhaka Reporters Unity.
The DRU authorities have named its VIP auditorium in memory of the murdered couple.
Noor Jahan Mirza, mother of slain journalist of ATN Bangla Meherun Nahar Runi, said they did not know when they would get justice, but they wanted justice at any cost, at least, for the sake of the couple’s only son Megh.
Saleha Munir, mother of Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar, said it was very unfortunate that the movement demanding justice in the murder case slowed down in the recent time.
She called upon all journalists to launch tougher movement for justice.
‘The government has brought so many assailants under trials and finished cases in connection with other incidents that occurred after the murder of Sagar-Roni. We do not understand why the government is showing reluctance to this case,’ said Saleha Munir.
DRU president Shahed Chowdhury expressed his dissatisfaction saying the government was not showing any importance to the issue. ‘The Joj Miah drama did not yield any result. So arrest the real killers and those who ordered the killing from behind,’ said Chowdhury.
He urged the home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir to arrest the real killers by a week, unless they would go for tougher movements like sit-in and procession.
‘Either arrest the killers or resign,’ Chowdhury urged the home minister.
General secretary Elias Khan and vice-president Ziaul Kabir Sumon, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Sagar and Runi were killed at their West Razabazar residence on February 11, 2012.
The home minister, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, on October 9 announced that seven people were for the killing.
Family members, however, doubted the findings.
