Swapan Kumar Bala, a Dhaka University professor of accounting and information systems department, joined Dhaka Stock Exchange as chief executive officer on Monday, a DSE press release said.
Bala has 22 years of experience in the field of accounting as a teacher, the DSE press release said.
The post of CEO of DSE fell vacate on January 9 when the then CEO Musharraf Hussain resigned alleging that his board of directors did not follow corporate culture.
To fill up the post, DSE had invited applications from the eligible candidates. Eleven candidates applied for the post. But the DSE board rejected all for different reasons.
Later, the DSE assigned a private management consultancy firm to search for a CEO for the bourse.
The board of directors of DSE on March 25 nominated Bala for the appointment of CEO of the bourse.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission on April 3 approved Bala for the post of CEO of DSE.
As per the securities rule, the DSE has to appoint a new CEO within 90 days after the post falls vacant.
