The authorities of the Dhaka Stock Exchange have not solicited any advice or suggestions from the exchange’s members and concerned quarters although the volatility in the capital market has been continuing for one and a half month.
A number of stockbrokers, who are the members of DSE, said that they were neither consulted nor invited to any of the meetings of the DSE in spite of the current turmoil.
‘It is strange that we are not being consulted. We could have put forward some useful suggestions,’ said a stockbroker.
Office bearers of the DSE said that they had held a number of meetings including one on Wednesday to discuss the ways to overcome the current crisis, but other members were not consulted.
DSE president Shakil Rizvi could not be contacted for comment on the issue despite repeated attempts on Thursday.
Saiful Islam, a director and former vice-president of the DSE, said that he had no idea why other members were not invited to any meeting.
Some members of DSE said that the investors trade shares in their brokerage houses and it was necessary to take their opinions to restore confidence in the investors.
