The fourth grade employees of Dhaka University on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor, AAMS Arefin Siddique, demanding a rise in the current age limit for employees to 62 years from 60. DU pro-vice-chancellor Shahid Akhtar Hossain received the memorandum at his office. DU 4th grade employees’ association, earlier in the morning, also staged a demonstration at the university registrar building to press home their demand.
The officials also demanded reduction in educational qualification to Class VIII from Secondary School Certificate for the candidates.
The union president, Md Sahajahan, said, ‘We have placed our logical demands but the authorities seem to be indifferent to our issues.’
He lamented that the ‘father of the nation’ and the country’s first president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman lost his studentship as he took side with the employees’ demand. ‘But now DU authorities do not pay the heed to their demand,’ he said.
The university authorities in a syndicate meeting on May 25 increased the educational qualification of the employees to SSC from Class VIII.
