The Dhaka University authorities on Thursday announced its proposed annual budget of Tk 922.48 crore for the financial year 2022-23, keeping Tk 15.5 crore or 1.63 per cent for research.
DU Treasurer professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed placed the proposed budget at the annual senate session of the university at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban with vice-chancellor professor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
This year, the size of the budget increased by Tk 90.69 crore than the previous year’s Tk 831.79 crore budget.
According to the new budget, 29.59 per cent of the total budget is allocated for salary, 23.74 per cent for allowances, 19.51pc for goods and services, 19.51per cent for pension and retirement facilities, 2.38 per cent for capital grant, and 3.64 per cent for other grants.
However, Tk 15.5 crore, which is only 1.63 per cent of the total budget, is allocated for research purposes.
In the previous financial year, the allocation for research was Tk 11.00 crore or 1.32 per cent.
As per the proposed budget, the University Grants Commission will provide Tk 781.94 crore while Tk 83 crore will come from the university’s internal sources.
As a result, there will be a deficit of Tk 57.54 crore in this financial year.
Earlier, on June 12, the university syndicate approved the budget at a syndicate meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.
In 2021, DU announced an annual budget of Tk 831.79 crore for the financial year 2021-22 with only 1.32 per cent or Tk 11.00 crore allocation for research.
