Two leading public universities of the country-University of Dhaka (DU) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have been ranked as 4922 and 3801 in global position respectively according to Webometrics January survey.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of the USA has been ranked as number one in the world. Stanford University and Harvard University occupied second and third places respectively. Universities of the USA occupied the first 23 places consecutively in the world.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) ranked 29 while University of Dhaka (DU) ranked 45 in the sub-continent.
DU occupied 6712 position in the world ranking and 64 in the sub-continent in July last year. BUET stood 3664 in world ranking and 22 in sub-continental ranking in the same survey.
Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) has become 75th in the sub-continent and occupied the top position among the private universities of the country. It occupies 6602 place in the world ranking. American International University in Bangladesh (AIUB)- has become 99th in the sub-continent. AIUB has been placed at 7397 in the world university ranking.
The “Webometrics Ranking of World Universities” is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.
Since 2004, the Ranking Web is published twice a year (January and July). This Ranking has the largest coverage with more than 16,000 Higher Education Institutions worldwide listed in the Directory. Web presence measures the activity and visibility of the institutions and it is a good indicator of impact and prestige of universities. Rank summarizes the global performance of the University, provides information for candidate students and scholars, and reflects the commitment to the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
