Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) demanded immediate removal of DU Fine Art teacher Shishir Bhattacharya for allegedly provoking students to beat up it’s five reporters over ragging a female admission seeker Sunday.
The association also demanded expulsion of the attacking students, treatment for the injured reporters and return of the snatched cameras, mobile phone sets and moneybags of the reporters.
Outgoing DUJA president Mahbubur Rahman placed the aforesaid demands at a press conference at the association’s office yesterday noon.
The Association strongly condemned the falsehood in a press release issued by Fine Art Faculty Dean Rafiqunnabi alleging that the DU reporters misbehaved with Shishir Bhattacharya and at one stage pushed him over the ragging.
DUJA will form a human chain at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla today (Tuesday) as part of their protest programmes against the attacks on journalists. The association will also avoid all positive news of Fine Art Faculty for next ten days.
It is mention-worthy that a group of 50 to 60 unruly students of Fine Art Faculty beat up five DU reporters leaving three of them seriously injured, as the reporters protested the students’ insistence on lifting trousers of a female admission seeker upto her thigh Sunday.
