Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Thursday said that it would be convenient for the commission to hold elections if the two big political parties come to a compromise under which system of government the parliamentary polls would be held. “The two big political parties –Awami League and BNP- will have to reach a compromise regarding the system of government during the election time. All other parties have to participate here.
Then it would be convenient for Election Commission (EC),” he said at the EC secretariat in the city.
He, however, said that the EC is ready to hold the national elections under any system of government – partisan or non-partisan.”
Replying to a query quoting LGRD Minister Syed Ashraf that Army would not be deployed during parliamentary polls, he said, “I don’t have anything to say in this regard.
But we have seen that if any force is deployed before polls, the security would is ensured.”
About the amendment to the election’s code of conduct, he said, “We still could not sit to settle. It will be done within a short time. We would talk to the major political parties if any major changes are necessary.”
