New Age got in touch with various artistes to know what Eid used to be like to them in their early years and how it is now. In interviews, the popular artistes reminisced their memorable times.
To noted Tagore singer Sadi Mohammad, Eid is a day of pure happiness and delight. However, as per Sadi, Eid also brings a lot of responsibilities nowadays. ‘The way I used to enjoy Eid when I was a child was amazing and carefree, but now Eid is more about responsibilities than delight,’ said Sadi, who also added: ‘I have a family which is dependent on me and I must present them gifts on special occasions like Eid. It sometimes puts a kind of financial pressure on me.’ Sadi also said that purchasing cattle, supervising the slaughtering and also scaling and distributing meat are also great duties on Eid-ul-Azha. ‘I love the philosophy behind Eid-ul-Azha; however, responsibilities on this Eid sometimes diminish the pleasure,’ said Sadi.
Professor Dr Abdus Sattar
Noted oriental artist professor Dr Abdus Sattar shared about his childhood days with New Age saying that those days were just full of colour and happiness. ‘What pleasant those days were!’ reminisced Dr Sattar, who added, ‘We used to get thrilled during Eid days about the notion of going to the haat to buy cows and also play all day long with other children when I was a child and living in a village in Natore.’ ‘The pleasure of Eid has become quite mechanical these days as I am living in the capital. In this city, I can’t even say who my next door neighbour is, but in villages, everybody knows everyone and therefore there are more opportunities of sharing the pleasures of Eid,’ also said Sattar.
Abida Sultana
Noted singer of modern songs Abida Sultana reflects that Eid has always been a pleasant experience for her. ‘However, the way I derive fun on Eid has changed a lot. When I was a child, the fun was in receiving gifts from the elders. But now the roles have changed. I get pleasure in giving the gifts,’ said Sultana. ‘I used to enjoy getting new clothes and special food on Eid days but now I buy new clothes and prepare special dishes for my husband and son, and Eid is pleasant in either ways,’ added Abida Sultana. ‘Besides, Eid gives us opportunities to meet with relatives and friends and spend time with them,’ revealed Abida Sultana.
Azizul Hakim
Noted actor Azizul Hakim, who has immense popularity to both small screen and theatre audiences, said that he still enjoys Eid day with his friends and family. ‘I find it really enjoyable in spending Eid day with my wife and son,’ said Hakim, who also added that Eid means a lot of responsibilities also. ‘Eid is about the little delights and I find them even in the responsibilities of Eid,’ shared Hakim. ‘However, I still miss celebrating Eid day with my parents, who are no more,’ said Hakim.
Shamim Ara Nipa
According to noted dancer Shamim Ara Nipa, the great thing about Eid is that it offers an opportunity for a get together with relatives and friends. ‘We don’t get much time to meet our relatives and friends on average days and wait for Eid so that we can catch up,’ said Nipa. However, the dancer still misses her childhood days when she used to celebrate Eid without any weight of responsibilities. ‘Eid means many responsibilities for friends and families and thus the simple pleasure I used to get on Eid duing my childhood days is missing presently,’ added Nipa.
Ferdous
Ferdous used to spend his Eid playing with his friends when he was a child. ‘Currently I spend the whole day of Eid at my home. I just love spending time with my wife and two daughters and chitchat with them,’ said Ferdous, who is one of the busiest actors of Dhallywood. Ferdous also said that he enjoys watching Eid specials on different television channels on Eid day.
