The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be observed on October 16 as the new moon of the Arabic month of Jilhaj was sighted in the country’s sky yesterday.
The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision at a meeting after reviewing reports received from different parts of the country.
Director General (DG) of Islamic Foundation Shamim Mohammad Afzal presided over the meeting in absence of State Minister for Religious Affairs M Shahjahan Mia.
Other committee members attended the meeting held at the foundation’s conference room at Baitul Mukarram in the capital.
After the meeting, Islamic Foundation DG told reporters that the Jilhaj moon was sighted in Gaibandha.
