Eight submit nomination papers
Eight members of the Dhaka Stock Exchange have submitted their nomination papers for the elections of four directors’ posts of the bourse scheduled to be held on June 10.
The candidates who submitted their nomination papers are Sharif Anowar Hossain of Sahidullah Securities, Mohammad Shamim Afzal of Desa Securities, Azizul Hoque of B & B Enterprise, Mohammad Lutfar Rahman of Latif Securities, Shahed Abdul Khaleque of Shahed Securities, Monzur Uddin Ahmed of M & Z Securities, Dastagir Md Adil of Adil Securities and Khugesta Nur-E-Naharin of Modern Securities.
As per the election schedule, candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers until June 2.
On May 16, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission issued no objection certificates to 12 DSE members who expressed their interest to participate in the DSE elections.
Suja Uddin Ahmad of Securities Broking and Management Services, Shahudul Huque Bulbul of Bulbul Securities, Kazi Firoz Rashid of Kazi Firoz Rashid Securities and Khondokar Asadul Islam of City Brokerage did not submit their nomination papers to the DSE election commission till Monday, the last date of submitting nomination papers.
The DSE election commission on April 19 announced the election schedule for the bourse’s four director posts.
The annual general meeting is scheduled to be held on June 13, three days after the elections.
The next president, senior-vice president and vice-president will be elected at the AGM.
Of the 25 directors of the DSE, 12 are elected and 12 are nominated by different business bodies while the chief executive officer of the bourse is the other one.
Every year four elected directors retire from their posts.
This year two-year term of DSE president Rakibur Rahman, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, Khwaja Ghulam Rasul and Sharif Ataur Rahman will end.
Last year, the election to the bourse’s four directors was held in March, but the DSE board at a meeting on March 15 this year decided to hold the regular elections three months later this time.
