With all sorts of chaos and confusion Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at last began their Independence Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over defending champions Mohammedan SC at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday. The Bangladesh Football Federation has been battling a legal fight regarding the eight players against Sheikh Jamal, who claims the players as their own despite their transfer to some other clubs.
The battle compelled the league to defer and Jamal started without them as the issue is still hanging for a legal decision.
The off-the field issue may be still hanging in the balance but the Dhanmondi outfit showed their class in the field as national discard striker Enamul Haque and Haitian Wedson Anselme struck one goal apiece in the first half to give them a winning start in the domestic season.
It was also a great confidence booster for the three-time champions as they clinched the victory
after three successive international defeats in the ongoing AFC Cup, a second tier club competition in Asia.
Jamal dominated the first half before Mohammedan took the control of the game in the second half and both the teams entertained the crowd with some lively football.
But Wedson along with two countrymen Emeka Darlington and Landing Darboe , who have been playing for Jamal for a long time, made the ultimate difference with their class.
