Emon Saha wins double crown
Noted music director Emon Saha has set a new record winning two awards in music category as the best background music composer and the best music director this year’s national film award, according to the information ministry’s gazette issued on February 7.
He has been named the best music director for the playback Ayna Amar Adhar Raater Ayna of Humayun Ahmed’s film Ghetuputra Kamola and has been named the best composer for the music score of Masud Akhond’s film Pita.
‘It was surprising to me to win the national film awards in two categories in the same year,’ Emon Saha told New Age. ‘To the best of my knowledge, it is for the first time any artiste has got two national awards at once,’ he added.
Emon Saha won the national awards two times previously. He got the best director award in 2011 for the playback – of the film Kusum Kusum Prem and won the award in 2008 as a composer for the background music of Murad Parvez’s film Chandragrahan.
‘My successive successes as a musician is inspiring for my career and has made me more responsible to my work,’ said Emon Saha, who got training under the iconic Oscars winning Indian composer AR Rahman in Chennai, India few years back.
The late filmmaker and composer Satya Saha’s son Emon Saha is from such a family that all the members of the family including his parents and elder brother won the national film award.
‘It is an interesting thing about my family that all the members of the family including my father Satya Saha, my mother Ramola Saha and , my brother Sumon Saha and I have received the award,’ he said.
Ramola Saha won the national award as producer when Suman won the award as a child artiste. His father Satya Saha won the national film award three times: two times in music and once as the director of Puroshkar.
Though music is in his blood, Emon Saha thinks that working in film is a challenging job. ‘Composing songs and music scores for films are always a tricky job as such compositions must reflect the story, context and actor’s emotion in a film. It becomes more difficult when the producers arrange very poor budget and create pressure to finish the task within a short time,’ Emon Saha said.
As one of the busiest musicians of the industry, Emon is currently very busy with music for several films such as Samiyat Hossain’s Alpo Alpo Prem-er Galpo, Chashi Nazrul islam’s Antaranga, Murad Parvez’s Brihanalla, Debashish Biswas’s Mon Joley, and others.
