A series of fairs was launched throughout the country on Thursday to create awareness and encourage people to take up English language learning opportunities.
The series of fairs titled ‘Ananday Shiki Engreji – English in Action Mela’ would take place in 37 upazilas of the country. English in Action Project and Upazila Education Offices jointly organised the fair.
The programme aims to reach millions of adult learners and train 75,000 primary and secondary school teachers and approximately 10 million students by 2017, using the most effective, interactive and innovative methods.
The fair has information, education and entertainment booths to attract students, teachers, parents and people of all ages.
EIA fair started on September 28, 2013 in 8 upazilas of Barisal, Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet.
EIA team leader Johan Bentinck said that the community fairs organised by EIA aim to reach all those eager to learn English across Bangladesh.
DFID Bangladesh country representative Sarah Cooke said the UK government was committed to improve the lives of millions of people around Bangladesh through initiatives like English in Action, which is increasing people’s scope of finding jobs.
