Members of civil society, government officials and development partners in a coordination meeting in Rangpur on Monday underscored the need for concerted efforts of
all to uphold the rights of the people with disability.
They said mainstreaming of the potential of the people with disability would contribute to the process of overall development of the country, said a press release.
The programme held at the Shishu Academy auditorium in the capital.
The Promoting Social and Political Rights of People with Disability organised the programme.
The project is funded by the European Union.
The programme was addressed, among others, by Narayan Chandra Barma, additional divisional commissioner, Rangpur, Harun-Ar-Rashid, deputy director, Social Welfare and M Nurun Nabi, the programme manager of ADD.
A total of 76 participants, including presidents and secretaries of different oganizations working with disability, government officials, representatives of NGOs and members of civil society, participated in the daylong meeting.
ADD has initiated this project in nine districts in Bangladesh involving a total of 110 Disabled People’s Organisations to help establishing their rights.
