There is a speculation among the Jatiya Party (JP) leaders and activists that their party Chairperson HM Ershad is likely to send abroad for treatment under state arrangement.
Members of the RAB picked Ershad up from his Baridhara residence on December 12 and took him to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment, but Ershad claimed that he is under detention. JP sources said, a detective branch of the government has taken passports of Eric Ershad, son of Ershad, Ershad’s private secretary Major (Retd) Khaled Akhter and his personal assistant Abdul Wahab as part of the process sending Ershad abroad.
Brushing aside the news, Jatiya Party Presidium Member Kazi Firoz Rashid on Wednesday told The Independent that their party chief HM Ershad is not going to abroad for any treatment.
“He is not going and will take his treatment locally. It is a rumour about his foreign treatment published in media,” he said in reply to a query. When contacted Ershad’s Private Secretary Major (Retd) Khaled Akhter, he said, “Our Chairman is not going to abroad tonight.” Then when Ershad is going to abroad, he again replied, “I don’t know, but it is true that he is not going to abroad tonight (Wednesday).”
“My passport is with me and I never handed over my passport to anyone,” he replied to another query.
Meanwhile, GM Quader, the Presidium Member of JP, who is also the younger brother of Ershad on Wednesday meet with his brother at CMH, but he didn’t talk with the media after the meeting.
GM Quader, on December 13, had said, his brother is totally physically fit.
Meanwhile, Our Rangpur Correspondent reports: The 48-hour dawn-to-dusk hartal in the eight districts of the Rangpur division, enforced by the two rival groups of Jatiya Party, ended peacefully, with some isolated picketing in different areas including Jahaj Company Square.
Moshiur Rahaman Ranga in a meeting alleged that Mostafizur Rahaman Ranga and Abdur Rouf Manik gave a huge amount of money to Sunil Shuvo Roy, JP press secretary HM Ershad and made the expelled letter in which there was no signature of the party chairman.
Ranga also said the transport owners to ply their vehicles in the streets and shop owners to open their shops.
“If anybody attacks the vehicles and shops, we resist it and take action against them who would try to create anarchy,” he added.
