Miscreants killed an adolescent ethnic minority girl after raping her and dumped the body in a jungle at Kamakyachhara of Boalkhali area in Dighinala under Khagrachari.
The body of 12-year-old girl was found near the Noakhali tila in the area.
The police recovered the body on Friday morning and sent it to the Khagrachari General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The girl’s aunt said the little girl had gone out of home to a nearby grocery around 9:30pm on Thursday and did not return home all the night.
The family went on a massive search in the area and found her body near the Noakhali tila and they immediately informed the police of the matter, she said.
The girl was a student of Class III. Her family alleged that a young man of the locality, Hashem, had been stalking her for long.
The post-mortem examination on the body was carried out at Khagrachari General Hospital morgue on Friday afternoon.
The Dighinala upazila chairman, Dharmabir Chakma, said that in primary investigation evidences of rape were found.
The Dighinala police officer-in-charge, Abdul Kader, said they had recovered the body hearing news from villagers.
He said that a case would be filed in connection with the killing.
The Khagrachari unit president of the Hill Women’s Federation Madri Chakma and general secretary Mishuk Chakma in a statement condemned the rape and killing of the girl and demanded immediate arrest and trial of the persons responsible.
