Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team settled for a bronze in the Asian Games after losing to Thailand by 34-23 points in the semi-final in Guangzhou on Thursday.
This was the second medal for Bangladesh in the meet after the silver in women’s cricket. Bangladesh is also assured of at least a silver medal as the men’s cricket team reached the final on Thursday beating Sri Lanka by five wickets. Bangladesh trailed Thailand by 25-15 points in the first half.
Bangladesh men’s hockey team finished eighth after they lost to Oman by 6-5 goals in the place decider. Bangladesh were seventh in the last Asian Games in Doha in 2006.
Bangladesh looked set to take the seventh place when they led the first half 3-2 and found the back of the net twice shortly after they break to take a 5-2 lead, but Oman opened the floodgate at the fag end scoring four goals to snatch the victory.
Mamunur Rahman Chayan scored two goals for Bangladesh from penalty corners while forward Pushkar Khisa added two field goals. Krishno Kumar scored the other goal for Bangladesh.
In the men’s 60kg karate quarter-final match, Bangladesh’s Zahirul Islam lost to Mukhimov Uluqbek Uzbekistan
