Students of the faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University have organised an exhibition for raising funds to save the life of peer Syed Fida Hossain. Fida, an MFA student of the department of drawing and painting, is suffering from fatal disease called familial colonic
polyposis for the last few years.Doctors said that at least Taka four million is required for him to undergo a major surgery. As Fida’s family is not able to bear the medical expenses, his friends have come forward to raise funds through painting sale at an exhibition being held at Zainul Gallery 2.
On Sunday, jute and apparel minister Latif Siddiqi inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest. The minister also promised to donate a large amount for Fida’s medical expenses.
Md Jamal Hossain, chairman of drawing and painting department, Abul Bark Alvi, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, were present on the occasion as the special guests.
Fida’s teachers spoke of Fida’s passion for art and his brilliant works, which have so far earned him the Dipa Haq award in the 18th edition of National Art Biennial and a third prize in an international visual art competition in Iran.
Alvi also promised that Fida’s teachers and other senior artists will also arrange a fund-raising exhibition very soon. The current exhibition at the Zainul Gallery by Fida’s peers showcases more than a hundred artworks in different mediums and categories.
An untitled acrylic painting by Fida is also on display. The artwork brilliantly depicting a common man, a labour, smoking a cigarette got sold at the inauguration for Tk 120,000.On the opening day; two other extraordinary artworks were also sold.
The exhibition gives an opportunity to collect various meaningful artworks at very reasonable prices.
Art lovers will find several entries worthy of keeping in their private collection.
Azmal Hossain’s excellent painting Speed, acrylic on paper, illustrating two running horses is really a piece worth collecting at only Taka 7000.
Dulli’s colourful painting Three Women, done in acrylic on canvas, is another fantastic one priced at Taka 4000.
Nabila Mehzabin’s untitled acrylic painting on canvas portraying a rural girl priced at Taka 7000 is also a steal, given the price.
‘We hope, we will be able to raise the necessary fund through the exhibition and donation. We will get Fida back among us’, Foysal Forazi, one of the organisers of the exhibition told New Age.
The exhibition will remain open for all from 10.00am to 8.00pm till July 30.
