Experts on Thursday stressed building a multi-sectoral platform to address the issue of malnutrition in a better way. They also said the 1000-days approach – the time between a woman’s pregnancy and her child’s 2nd birthday – should be taken in a collaborative manner.
They said this at the annual general committee meeting of Civil Society Alliance for Scaling up Nutrition, Bangladesh at the BRAC Centre, said a press release.
SUN, led by the UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon, is founded on the principle that all people have a right to food and good nutrition.
Bangladesh is considered as one of the 36 high burden countries for malnutrition as 41 per cent children are stunted and 45,000 to 100,000 children are dying from chronic malnutrition every year.
President of CSA for SUN, BD Rukhsana Haider said an integrated approach was required to tackle the issues of malnutrition.
The meeting was also attended, along others, by FHI 360 country programme manager Ferdousi Begum.
CSA for SUN, BD is the Bangladeshi alliance composed of representatives from civil society networks across Bangladesh – which represents the global SUN.
