Bangladesh’s garment exports to the country’s single largest export market, the USA, increased 53.54 percent year on year to $6.64 billion in the January-August time frame of the current year, according to data from the USA’s Office of Textiles and Apparel, (OTEXA).
Bangladesh occupies third place with a 9.42 percent share of the apparel market in the North American country.
The report showed that between January and August, the United States imported clothing worth $69.27 billion, a rise of 37.35% from the previous year.
The United States imported $15.56 billion worth of goods from China in the first eight months of 2022, a growth of 37.17 percent.
The OTEXA data also showed that at the same period, imports from Vietnam totaled $12.80 billion, showing a 33.62 percent year-over-year increase.
Imports from the top 10 countries that supply clothing to the USA increased year on year in the following order: India, Indonesia, Cambodia, South Korea, and Pakistan had increases of 56.9%, 56.48%, 51.64%, 42.96%, and 42.16%, respectively.
