Expression is more than just communication; it is a way of reaching out and telling a story. Freedom on the other hand may be defined as absence of obstruction on the path to desire. Freedom is always considered a gift as it lets one to express themselves the way they want to.
Student of MFA second year, upcoming artist Nazmul Haque Bappy, in his first solo painting exhibition has chosen expression and freedom as the theme for his first exhibition titled “Expression of Freedom”, the exhibition is currently open at the La Galerie of Alliance Francaise de Dhaka. The exhibition started from 11 February and will continue till 24 February.
A student of MFA second year of the oriental department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, Bappy had to work abiding by the rules of oriental system. Oriental art form was first developed in China & Japan, with the flow of time it was established in Indian subcontinent by the contribution of Abanindra nath, Nandalal, Abdur Rahman Chuktai and many other artists. And it was not long that the form found a place in the position of our country.
Oriental paintings mainly use water colour wash system. This system has got its own characteristics. It is also associated with Mughal painting. Afterward, it turned out to be an active tradition.
The artist thinks that generally, the oriental art in our country is limited to academic stream. He says, “Rooted tree, lady, cactus, these things appear in my arts again and again. So I experiment on these subjects in my own style. I tried to create a new stream. I believe that when an artist creates any painting with the combination of his thinking and own view, only then his painting becomes creative.”
Nazmul Haque Bappy has participated in many group art exhibitions such as 16th Young Artist Art Exhibition 2008, Group art exhibition 2009, 4th Friendship art exhibition 2010 and more. He has also won many awards like Best Award in Oriental painting in 2008, Faculty of Fine Arts, DU; 5th Award in 14th Berger young art competition in 2009 and Zia-ur-Rahman Gold Medal in 2010
