The national selectors will keep a close eye on the players ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka as the franchise-based first-class tournament Bangladesh Cricket League begins at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan from today. Defending champions Walton Central Zone will face Islami Bank East Zone, while Prime Bank will play BCB against North Zone in the opening round respectively at BKSP 2 and 3.
‘We are focussing on every aspects of the game keeping in mind the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka,’ chief selector Faruk Ahmed told New Age on Saturday.
‘This is a very good opportunity for the players to get accustomed to the longer version game as they had very few chances.
‘Similarly, I think it will also provide us a chance to assess their skill and temperament.’
The first two rounds of the four-team competition will be held at the BKSP before the tournament gets a break for Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh, the Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014.
Faruk said the tournament will give them a chance to particularly emphasise on the opening pair ahead of the Test series as they are in desparate need to find out a suitable partner for Tamim Iqbal.
Anamul Haque’s aggregate of 50 runs from four innings in the New Zealand series has put his place in the team in danger with the selectors unlikely to continue the experiment too long.
