Fahad Rahman, the youngest FIDE Master of Bangladesh, said that the 14th Dubai Junior Chess title was the best achievement of his career so far despite winning four more tournaments abroad.
The 13-year old chess sensation returned home on Thursday after lifting the Sheikh Maktoum Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.‘This was definitely the best success of my career because I had to face some real challenge before winning the title,’ Fahad told New Age on Thursday.
Fahad beat Omran Al Hossaini of UAE in the final round on Tuesday to clinch the title. He collected total eight points from nine matches.
Fahad, seeded third in the competition, put behind the top two seeded players — Ukraine’s Viktor Matviishen and Rahul Srivastava of India — to earn the glory.
‘I was third-seeded player there which means I had to face two players, who were ahead of me in the world rankings. Top seeded Matviishen offered me some huge challenge and finally I ended up with a draw against him’, said Fahad.
‘The match against second seed Rahul was also a tough one and the win over him helped me to win the title.’
Fahad also said that it was a tough and competitive tournament.
‘All the participants tried their best so it was a difficult tournament and most of the players were older than me,’ said the seventh grade student.
‘I thought briefly before giving every move which helped me to finish on top.’
Fahad now wants to participate in the tournaments where he can obtain International Master Norms.
‘Now my plan is to participate in some IM and GM tournaments to obtain IM norms,’ he said.
‘I am participating in the rating tournaments regularly but it can only increase my rating points, nothing else. In Bangladesh we don’t get the opportunity to play in GM and IM tournaments so I cannot get norms.
‘I want to play more IM and GM tournaments abroad and for that I need financial assistance from both the government and private sectors.’
