Crisis of tickets at fair price frustrated large number of cricket fans who demonstrated on Wednesday outside Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, the international venue where the first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan is being held. Tickets were found being sold in black-market outside the venue at higher price but no action was seen taken neither by law enforcers nor stadium authorities to stop it.
Although the entire Khulna city has now taken a festive look centering the Test match, hundreds of young boys and girls, mostly students, who flocked to the stadium, could not see the match being unable to buy tickets.
Not everyone however is as that unfortunate. Many fans collected tickets from black-market to join the festival in jovial mood carrying mini-size national flags and wearing head bands.
Osman Gani, a businessman living in Bashupara area of Khulna city, said he had purchased two tickets at higher price from black-market to witness the Test match sitting in the Western gallery.
‘I had to pay Tk 200 for two tickets, one for me and another for my son Ibrahim but the actual price is Tk 50 for each ticket,’ he said.
Iftekhar, Aslam and Shabuj, three students, said they had to pay Tk 50 per ticket for eastern gallery when the actual price is Tk 20 only.
The vice-president of the Khulna branch of the United Commercial Bank Md Mosleh Uddin told this correspondent that he was given one thousand tickets of different prices for sale.
But number of people seeking them was three times higher than the number of tickets he got, he said.
