Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, chief of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), on Monday urged top leaders of both ruling party and opposition BNP to reach a consensus on polls-time government structure to resolve the ongoing political impasse. He also called upon political parties to refrain from activities, subversive to the state and the people, saying that calling destructive political programmes like hartal, blockade and violence would only increase sufferings of the people.
He also urged the ruling party to avoid the politics of arrest and intimidation which, he said, would invite more unrest. Please solve the problems through dialogue in the greater interest of the national economy.”
The country’s apex trade body president made the appeal while addressing an award giving ceremony titled “National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2012” at CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Monday.
In the name hartal, FBCCI chief said, the opposition is encouraging anarchy and terrorism across the country thus destroying the normal atmosphere trade and business. On the other hand, the government resorts to repressive measures like arrest and harassment to stop hartal and political violence, he regretted.
“None of these will help resolve the ongoing political stalemate,” he said adding that the current political crisis could only be solved by holding meaningful dialogues between the top leaders of the ruling Awami League and the main opposition BNP.
The FBCCI chief also urged the politicians to work positively to help create business-friendly atmosphere for the country’s business community.
“If the political parties ensure level-playing field for the businessmen, we will be able to advance the economy further at national and international level,” Akram added.
