The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Thursday requested the Bangladesh Bank not impose charge on clients for inter-bank money transaction.
The FBCCI in a statement said it had come to know from media reports that the central bank was going to impose charge on clients of all banks for inter-bank money transactions through cheques and electronic fund transfer for the first time.
‘The FBCCI thinks that if such charges are imposed, it will create additional burden for clients,’ said the FBCCI adding that the banks are already charging higher for different services.
‘The cost of doing business will go up affecting the economic activities if charges are imposed on inter-bank transaction,’ it said.
The FBCCI said the export sector of the country was facing negative trend. ‘In such a situation, we request the central bank not to impose charges on inter-bank transaction.’
According to BB proposal, the clients would count Tk 50 for clearing of each high value cheque, Tk 12 for regular value cheque and Tk 10 for each electronic fund transfer.
