The Bangladesh Football Federation deferred the Federation Cup for an indefinite period which was supposed to begin from today. BFF took the decision after most of the clubs among 12 participating teams denied to take part in the tournament. ‘We asked all the clubs to entry their names for the Federation Cup but most of the clubs didn’t agree to play before the national team’s matches in the next month,’ BFF’s senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedy said on Saturday.
‘The Federation Cup will not start from tomorrow [Sunday] for the betterment of the national team.’
Salam said as the prime authority of the country’s football, BFF has the responsibility to see every aspects of the game.
‘We have to consider the interest of the clubs as they sacrifice a lot by releasing their players for the national team,’ said Murshedy, who is also the chairman of the professional football league committee.
He also hinted that the Federation Cup is likely to begin from June 10, three days after national team’s home match against Tajikistan in the Asian Cup play-offs qualifiers.
‘We are giving our full concentration on the forthcoming two matches of national team and after the matches we will fix the starting date of the Federation Cup,’ added Murshedy.
With the decision, the ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League is also deferred which is supposed to begin from June 10.
