The Grameen-phone Federation Cup football tournament will start from Sunday after Friday’s inaugural match was called off due to inclement weather and incessant rain.
Chittagong Abahani were scheduled to face Bangladesh Police in the first match of the curtain raiser tournament to the football season.
The pitch of the Kamalapur stadium was unplayable as it has no drainage system and the newly prepared ground became muddy.
The ground staff said the pitch will need at least two sunny days to be fit for holding a football match.
The top four teams of the last edition of the Bangladesh League – Dhaka Abahani, Dhaka Moahmmedan SC, Sheikh Russell KC and Feni Soccer Club – will play directly in the second round of the tournament. The other 14 teams will play in the first round splitting into four groups and the group champions will advance to the second round.
