Felani’s father and her maternal uncle have returned to Kurigram from India at 4.30 pm on Tuesday after appearing as witness in the Felani murder trial in India.
Commanding Officer (CO) of Kurigram 45 BGB Battalion Lt Col Zeaul Haque Khaled, Public Prosecutor of Kurigram judge court and principal of Kurigram Law College also eminent lawyer SM Abraham Lincoln, Felani’s father and her maternal uncle briefed in front of journalists after reaching Kurigram 45-BGB Headquarter. CO Lt Col Zeaul Haque Khaled told that Amio Ghosh, a BSF member is the only one accused in the case. He may be jailed for 7-14 years. We were kept in the Circuit House of Coochbihar district of West Bengal province in India with tight security. No body was allowed to meet them except BSF members.
Advocate Abraham Lincoln PP told that the court constituted of five members headed by DIG of Assam frontier C.P. Trivedi. Bipen Kumer was present as prosecutor on behalf of BSF.
BSF filed the case under BSF Act of 46. They found the reality of offence. Felani’s father appeared as actual witness as he was the eye witness. The verdict will be announced within some days.
All statements of the witnesses were translated in English and presented before the justices. Tuesday was fixed to receive statements from the witnesses. But the court informed at 11.00 am on Tuesday that the Bangladeshi witnesses’ statements were not required. However, the court took statements from two Indian witnesses on Tuesday.
Felani’s father Nurul Islam said, I answered all the questions properly. I saw that BSF member Amio Ghosh shot dead my beloved daughter. I want justice.
Felani’s maternal uncle Abdul Hanif told the journalists that he saw the dead body of Felani hung with the barbed wire like a goat. “I demand actual punishment from the Indian judge,” he said.
Earlier, a 15-year-old girl Felani was shot dead by BSF of Chawdhurihat BOP under 181 BSF Battalion on January 7, 2011 while she along her father Nurul Islam were entering Bangladesh crossing the barbed wire fences at Anantapur border point in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district. Her dead body hung with the Indian barbed wire fences for at least 5 hours. The pathetic news was a shock for people in home and abroad.
