Seasoned singer Ferdous Ara presented Nazrul songs at a solo programme organised by Performing Art Centre marking the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 114th birth anniversary on Friday at the National Museum Auditorium.
Ferdous Ara sang 10 songs giving different tastes at the programme. She rendered popular romantic songs such as Nilambari sari porey, Noyon bhora jolgo tomar and Champa parul juthi.
In between the songs, Ferdous Ara demonstrated on the diverse artistic talent Nazrul had. The singer presented Masjider-i pashe amay kabar diyo bhai and Ami kali bancha kalpataru in a row.
Before presenting Usha elo chupi chupi, Ferdaus Ara informed that the song had been used as a playback in Gora, based on Tagore’s novel Gora, in which Nazrul was the music director.
Ferdous Ara and along with her daughter Fahmid Ferdous presented Jaak na nishi gaane gaane in duet.
The programme turned more colourful one as renowned recitation artiste Jayanto Chattopadhyay pleased the audience with his stentorian recitation of Nazrul’s famous poem Kandari Hushiyar. Subsequently, Ferdous Ara rendered the song.
Renowned dance duo Shibli Mohammad and Shamim Ara Nipa, with their students, gave a brilliant dance recitation synchronised with rendition of Ferdaus Ara’s presentation of Nazrul songs Mor ghumoghore ele monohor and Sapuriyare bajao saap khelanor banshi.
The evening ended with a chorus presentation of an inspirational song Shangha sarono tirtho pothe performed in chorus by the students of Sursaptak, a music school run by Ferdaus Ara. They also presented Dao shourjo dao dhoirjo and Shonka sunya lokkha kontho in chorus at the beginning of the show.
