The finance ministry yesterday protested the Grameen Bank rejoinder published in different national dailies and said many of the claims made by the microlender are unfounded.
In a statement, it said it is better not to make further comments on an issue that is being dealt with by court.
The finance minister did not openly discuss many personal issues here but thinks the Grameen Bank letter should have been published in full (The Daily Star published the full translated text of the letter), read the statement signed by Senior Information Officer Shahedur Rahman.
The comments made by the minister were based on facts, and he did not make any false assertion, the finance ministry claimed.
Many of the claims by Grameen Bank have no substance and are baseless, it added.
On Saturday, several newspapers including The Daily Star published reports based on the Grameen Bank rejoinder that contested the finance minister’s comments on Dr Muhammad Yunus, managing director of the bank.
Earlier, the central bank issued a letter ordering removal of Yunus as managing director. It said the microlender did not take its prior permission for the appointment.
