Shreya Guhathakurta, who is well known to Indian audiences for her expertise with Tagore songs, collaborated with another singer who is noted for the same genre – UK based singer Nurul Islam to enchant the local audiences in Moulvibazar on Friday night.
Arunadaya, a Moulvibazar based cultural organisation consisting of young activists organised the show titled ‘Tomar Sathe Gaaner Khela’ at the local Saifur Rahman auditorium where the two artistes rendered a host of Tagore songs that left the audiences thoroughly entertained. Surer Vela, another cultural organisation, assisted Arundaya in hosting the event.
Popular artiste Shreya Guhathakurta was the first performer of the evening. After opening the show with Anandadhara Bohichhe Bhubone, she was joined by Nurul Islam on stage and alternatively they rendered some of the most popular songs of Tagore like Amar Hiyar Majhe Lukiye Chhile, Pagla Hawer Badol Dine, Sokhi Bhalobasa Kaare Koy, Shey Din Dujone Dulechhinu Bone, Gram Chhara Oi Rangamatir Path.
The auditorium had a full house audience by the beginning of the event at 7:30. Samiul Islam Polok, the anchor of the event, treated the audiences with his recitations of Tagore poems in between songs. The orchestra had Anjan Bondopadhay of Kolkata in tabla, Surajeet Das of Kolkata piano, Asit Biswas with Esraj and Babu with flute.
Social Welfare minister Syed Mohsin Ali was present at the programme. Moulvibazar district BNP president and former lawmaker M Naser Rahman, Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Qumrul Hasan were also present at the event.
