The District and Divisional Sports Organisers’ Forum have formally placed their demand that the National Sports Council form an interim committee for the impending Bangladesh Cricket Board elections, said the organisation’s leader on Tuesday.
The organisation, popularly known as Forum, insisted that the sports regulatory body should replace the present ad-hoc committee with a five-member interim committee to run the BCB during the elections.
‘We have submitted our demand to the NSC,’ said Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, a member of the Chittagong Divisional Sports Association.
‘We were informed through the media that members of the present ad-hoc committee will participate in the election. If that is the case, the election will be questioned if they are at the helm of the BCB,’ said Sirajuddin.
The Forum members placed their demand to the NSC the day following their meeting at the Bangladesh Olympic Association on Monday, days after the
Appellate Division of the Supreme Court cleared the way for a BCB election under a constitution amended by the NSC on November, 2012.
In the new constitution, the divisional commissioners and the deputy commissioners of all the districts, who are ex-officio presidents of their respective DSAs, are empowered to nominate the councillors.
Sirajuddin added that they had already sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office, seeking her time to discuss the forthcoming election.
