The District Sports Organisers Forum on Thursday decided to pledge their full backing to the general secretary candidate Khawaja Rahamatullah in the
upcoming Bangladesh Hockey Federation election.
The Forum, which claimed to have control over 27 votes out of a total of 71, confirmed Rahamatullah’s name as their favorite candidate after a meeting at the National Sports Council.
Forum general secretary Ashikur Rahman Miku validated their support after the meeting.
Rahamatullah, who received councillorship from Abahani Limited, is now confident of clinching victory over Shafiullah Al Munir, the hockey committee chairman of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited.
The controversial forum has often played a crucial role in deciding the outcome of elections in many sports federations.
Rahamatullah is the general secretary of the current ad-hoc committee of the BHF for the past two years while his potential rival Shafiullah has the backing of Mariner Youngs Club.
The schedule of the election has not yet been announced but the councilors’ list will be sent to the NSC today.
‘I was confident that the Forum would support me as a proven organiser and finally they have favoured me,’ said Rahamatullah on Tuesday.
Munir, however, was still hopeful that the district councilors will provide their support to him. ‘I am in constant touch contact with the district councilors and they have assured me of their assistance. So I am not concerned about what the Forum say,’ a self-assured Munir told reporters on Tuesday.
