A four-day international exhibition on construction materials began at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Wednesday.
Over 40 exhibitors from 5 countries are participating in the fair titled ‘15th Con-Expo Bangladesh 2012’.
Housing and public works state minister Abdul Mannan Khan inaugurated the fair.
Speaking on the occasion, Mannan urged people to be united against the land grabbers, illegal real estate companies and those who attract people through false advertisements.
He said that real estate businessmen need to work complying with the Real Estate Development and Management Act 2010, which has a provision for mandatory enlistment of developers to do business.
American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh president Aftab Ul Islam said that the construction and real estate sector deserve more attention of the government as this sector contributes more than 12-15 per cent in GDP and 2.5 million people are involved in this sector.
The fair has been organised by Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) while Elite Paints and Chemical Industries Limited and KSRM Steel Plant Limited are the co-sponsors of the exhibition.
Daily New Age and Samakal are the media partners of the fair.
CEMS managing director and president Meherun N. Islam, KSRM Steel Plant Ltd adviser (marketing and sales) Shahidur Rahman and Elite Paint and Chemical Industries Limited director Rabez Ahmed also spoke at the fair inauguration ceremony.
The exhibition is open for visitors from 11am to 7pm every day till September 29.
