A four-day long festival to boost local tourism will be launched on September 27 in Dhaka to celebrate World Tourism Day 2023.
The Bangladesh Tourism Board under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism will organise the festival titled ‘Bangladesh Festival’ at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
The festival will be open for visitors from 11:00am to 11:00 pm with no entry free.
World Tourism Day has been held on September 27 each year since 1980. This year, the day will be celebrated with the theme of ‘Tourism and Green Investments.’
The BTB chief executive officer Abu Tahir Muhammad Zaber, who announced the event at a press briefing on Tuesday on the BTB premises, said through the festival the BTB will promote travel-based products and services along with showcasing different cultural heritages of the country’s all 64 districts.
He further said that stakeholders including airlines, hotels, resorts, amusement parks, tourist vessels, travel agents, and tour operators will participate in the festival.
There will be various offers and arrangements for domestic tourism at this festival, he added.
To promote eco-tourism the BTB has invited the United Nations and other organisations that work for eco-tourism. Eco-tourism stalls and those who will come from different districts will not be charged any stall fees, the BTB CEO said.
Besides, a number of embassies in Bangladesh will share their food and culture at the festival.
Mohammad Sadequl Arefeen, managing director and CEO of Spellbound, responsible for implementing the event, said visitors at the festival would get the opportunity to learn about the natural beauty, archaeological sites, history, traditions, and tourism resources of Bangladesh.
The festival will also host seminars on a number of topics relating to the promotion of the tourism industry, including tea tourism, safety of tourists and tourist spots, accommodation, transportation, investment opportunities, human resource development and women’s participation.
