Trawler Capsize
Four more bodies recovered
Four more bodies of the victims of Saturday night’s boat capsize were recovered from the Buriganga yesterday.
Three of the dead are Jahangir, 26, Hossain, 21 and Zakir Hossain, 40. The other, also a male victim, could not be immediately identified. The recovery raised the death toll to six.
Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station, said they recovered the bodies around 11:30am near Postagola Bridge.
On Saturday, two people drowned and seven others went missing as an engine boat capsized in the river around 8:15pm after being sandwiched by two cargo vessels near Banshpotti in Keraniganj just outside the capital.
Rescuers recovered two bodies on that night. Most of some 50 passengers on the boat managed to swim ashore.
Officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station Md Asaduzzaman told The Daily Star they are yet to identify the culprit cargos or their drivers.
Police, however, filed a case against the drivers of the two cargos.
Meanwhile, the shipping department on Sunday formed a three-member body to probe the accident.
