Gazi Tank Cricketers reaffirmed their status as tournament favourites with a resounding win over Kalabagan CA, while Prime Doleshwar SC kept pace at the top with 16 points after defeating Prime Bank CC by 56 runs in the first round of Dhaka Premier League Super League matches on Wednesday. Mohammedan SC fell behind the leaders after losing by four wickets to Sheik Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who now find themselves tied with Mohammedan on 14 points.
Prime Bank and Kalbagan CA bring up the rear with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Gazi Tanks v Kalabagan CA
Man-of-the-match Roqibul Hassan scored an unbeaten 98 off 64 balls and newcomer Ryan ten Doeschate smacked 54 not out from 26 deliveries as Gazi Tanks scored 337-4 and crushed Kalabagan CA by 142 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Openers Imrul Kayes (64) and Aftab Ahmed (53) put on 114 in 23 overs before falling in quick succession.
Mahmudullah added 38 before his dismissal in the 43rd over brought the Dutchman Ten Doeschate out to join Roqibul, already set on 37. The pair proceeded to bludgeon 124 runs from the final 48 deliveries.
Roqibul hit Maksudul Hasan for three consecutive sixes in the 46th over and Ten Doeschate replicated the feat off Zakaria Masud in the 49th. The pair then combined to pillage 27 off Hamilton Masakadza in the final over of the innings.
Two fifties from KCA captain Sharif Ullah (55) and wicketkeeper Sahagir Hossain (70 not out) did little to affect the contest.
Arafat Sunny took 3-45 and Rubel Hossain posted 2-14 in seven overs as Gazi Tanks bundled KCA out for 195 in 45.3 overs, with Dewan Sabbir not batting after sustaining a cramp while bowling earlier.
Prime Doleshwar v Prime Bank
Doleshwar captain Forhad Reza scored 43 not out off 32 balls to lift his side to 244-7 in the first innings and then picked up 3-33 to help dismiss Prime Bank for 188 in a man-of-the-match performance at Fatullah.
Openers Mehedi Maruf (49) and newcomer Joshua Cobb (38) got Doleshwar to 70-1 in the 12th over, but plodding batting in the middle overs saw the run rate come down to barely above four-an-over by the time Dawid Malan (40 off 63) was dismissed in the 41st over.
Forhad, however, helped Doleshwar put up 75 runs in the final 10 overs.
The captain then dismissed both Prime Bank openers, and regular wickets and slow scoring prevented them from ever mounting a serious challenge.
Shehan Jayasuria led the futile chase with 45 off 73 balls.
Sheikh Jamal DC v Mohammedan SC
Mohammedan elected to bat first but soon found their top-order decimated by Shuvashish Roy, who was named the man of the match in Sheikh Jamal’s four-wicket victory at Savar.
Shuvashish picked up 4-30 and Tanvir Haider took 3-26 as the Dhanmondi side bundled out the opposition for 165 in 46 overs.
A late 49 from number nine Mashrafee bin Murtaza gave Mohammedan’s total an air of respectability, but it never appeared to be enough.
National captain Mushfiqur Rahim’s 44 not out led the charge as Sheikh Jamal ran down the target in the 35th over, finishing on 167-6.
