Skipper Habibul Bashar guided Gemcon Khulna Masters to a four-wicket win over Expo All Stars Masters, to help his side clinch the title of inaugural Masters Cricket Carnival at Mirpur on Wednesday.
Gemcon reached 125-6 in 17.3 overs after reducing their opponent to 124-8 to win the championship with Habibul making highest 28 runs.Habibul’s 32-ball stay comprising with two fours and a six helped Gemcon crossed the challenging total posted by their opposition in the rain-curtailed 18-over match.
Habibul along with opener Jamal Babu (17) gave Gemcon a flying start adding 25 runs before the latter departed.
Habibul added another 25 runs with Harun-ur Rashid to set up the winning platform on which their middle-order excelled to complete the win.
Earlier, Expo All Stars posted 124 -8 on the back of Sohel Rahman’s 28, highest for his side in the final while Lablu Rahman made 23 and Javed Omar chipped in with 17.
Gemcon’s Fahim Muntasir picked two wickets to resist the opponent from putting a big score on the board.
Six teams comprising with retried cricketers participated in the tournament with first phase being held in Cox’s Bazar from September 1-3.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan distributed the prizes among the winners after the match.
The organisers of the tournament also accorded a reception of some veteran cricket coaches, organisers and journalists for their contribution in Bangladesh’s cricket during the occasion.
