The government has decided to appoint Major General (retd) John Gomes as the new Bangladesh Ambassador to the Philippines.
General Gomes was commissioned in the Bangladesh Army as an infantry officer in 1977 and retired as a Major General in 2008.
A graduate of the Defence Service Command and Staff College, Mirpur, he did his Masters on defense studies and MBA under the University of Honolulu, USA.
He participated in UN Peace Keeping Mission in Tajikistan as Operation Officer and Team Leader of the Bangladesh Group of Observers.
In this capacity he was associated with international agencies like UNICEF, UNCHR, WFP, WHO, UNDP, World Vision and CARE.
After retirement, General Gomes gained experience on Hospital Management and Health Care Programmes. During this period, he attended leadership programmes at Methodist
Health Care, Memphis, USA, Bumrungrad Hospital, Thailand, Christian Mission Hospital and Aravind Eye Care Systems in India.
He is president of Military Christian Fellowship Bangladesh and general secretary of Notre Dame College Alumni Association.
