Despite world economic recession there is no possibility of an adverse affect on Bangladeshi labour markets abroad, a senior government official said yesterday.
The assurance came at a press conference held at National Press Club jointly by the Expatriate Welfare and Oversees Employment Ministry, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) and Manuser Jonnya Foundation on the eve of the World Migration Day today.
Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) President Golam Mostafa, Joint Secretary of the Ministry Monsur Reza Chowdhury and Additional Assistant Director of BMET Md Hazrat Ali addressed the conference while the WARBE Development Foundation Chairman Syed Saiful Haque presented keynote paper.
Monsur said that Bangladesh was seeking new markets for exporting manpower.
He added that the government had arranged at least 15 days training for the women workers before they leave the country on overseas employment.
BAIRA President Golam Mostafa while denying charges of exploiting migrant workers said that some recruiting agencies might be involved in such activities. He called upon the expatriate to contact the recruiting agents directly to avoid such harassment.
Syed Saiful Haque in his keynote paper said that Bangladeshi migrant workers have faced inequality, torture and discrimination in different foreign countries.
