The Global Social Business Summit 2013 will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 7-9 with ‘Social Business to Change the World’ as its theme.
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus will present the keynote speech at the opening of the summit while the welcome address will be delivered by Nurfarini Daing, CEO of Youth Trust Foundation myHarapan, and Hans Reitz, head of Global Social Business Summit.
Malaysian prime minister Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak will deliver the keynote speech on ‘Roadmap for social business in
Malaysia’ while Yunus will present the keynote on ‘Roadmap towards 2018’ at the closing of the summit.
Global Social Business Summit, introduced by Yunus, brings together the efficient and innovative methods of business and the task of solving social problems such as poverty, healthcare, education or energy and all the main actors in the field of social business.
Organised by the Grameen Creative Lab, Yunus Centre and Youth Trust Foundation (myHarapan), the Global Social Business Summit is an annual summit that showcases best practices and promotes discussions and collaboration among practitioners, stakeholders and experts from all over the world and across all sectors.
This year’s Global Social Business Summit will include plenary discussions among distinguished participants, special presentations, signing of Memorandum
of Understanding with the Government of Veracruz, announcement of The Grameen Creative Lab’s partnership with the City of Berlin.
This year 600 participants from around 40 countries will join Global Social Business Summit, including 107 from Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the GSBS Young Challengers Meeting will take place on November 6, a day before the start of the Global Social Business Summit.
It is a one-day workshop for young leaders to discuss the concept of social business, network and develop own social business ideas.
The Young Challengers will be attending the Global Social Business Summit and will have the opportunity to ask questions to decision makers about the role of social business in their countries and societies.
They will challenge political leaders from around the world, get together with CEOs from global corporations and meet Yunus personally to discuss their vision for the future.
The GSBS Young Challengers Meeting will be hosted by the Yunus and Youth – The YY Foundation and supported by the British Council.
In 2009, the GSBS was held for the first time in Autostadt Wolfsburg, Germany where the second edition was also held the next year.
In 2011 and 2012, GSBS was held in Vienna, Austria.
