A magistrate court on Monday remanded alleged gold smuggler for five days in police custody in connection with a case filed following the seizure of
undocumented 1.4 kilograms of gold ornaments and foreign currencies.
The metropolitan magistrate, Atiqur Rahman, put the accused, Golam Rabbani, 39, on the five-day remand after the Criminal Investigation Department produced him, seeking a seven-day remand in their custody.
Airport police arrested Rabbani, who was carrying the jewelleries in the chamber he made inside his shoe soles and heels, when he was crossing Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday mid-night on his arrival from Singapore.
The ornaments were worth Tk 38 lakh, while the foreign currencies were Malaysian Ringgit worth 88,412, the police said.
