Bangladesh Football Federation bade Serbian football coach Zoran Djordevic goodbye after refusing to accept his demand for signing a four-year contract on Saturday. BFF president Kazi Salahuddin thanked Zoran for his contribution to Bangladesh football before rejecting the Serbian’s plea for contract extension.
Salahuddin, who returned to the country on Friday night after attending a FIFA technical committee in Zurich, invited Zoran for talks to reach a conclusion. The meeting lasted just ten minutes as Zoran refused to change his stance.
‘I offered him to double the amount of his contractual money and asked him to lead the national team to Sri Lanka,’ said Salahuddin.
‘I said I will be coming to Sri Lanka and we can discuss the matter there, but he refused to accept my offer, so I said “thank you Zoran, thanks for your contribution”,’ Salahuddin added.
Zoran and his two assistant coaches took over charges of the Bangladesh football team for SA Games and the AFC Challenge Cup final round but just after the completion of the SA Games he asked the BFF to sign a new contract with him until 2014.
The federation made a package deal with him worth $16,000. Djordjevic and his two assistants, Zoran Kraljedic and Berber Dabor, had been assigned to guide the national football team in the South Asian Games as well as the AFC Challenge Cup final round.
After leading Bangladesh to the title of the SA Games football on February 8, Zoran told reporters that he was now a free man as his contract with the BFF was over, although the federation officials had earlier said that they had signed a two-month contract with Zoran in early January and it will expire in February.
Salahuddin was cautious about the next steps. ‘Yes, we can take legal action against him and inform the AFC and FIFA about the development, but as he has helped us win a title we are not interested in lengthening the matter, we will pay all of his contractual money,’ said Salahuddin.
Zoran was furious when leaving the BFF House and behaved badly with the press.
He complained that the BFF had intentionally denied him a fresh deal and development of the game is not possible under these guys – whom he had hailed as the perfect men to guide Bangladesh football when he took over the charges. Zoran is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Monday morning.
